How can I get my 8 month old to sleep?
My daughter sleeps in her crib next to my bed. But she lays with me to fall asleep. I have tried making patterns for her, and it has been unsuccessful. She eats when she wants, and the warm bath and book are just entertainment to her. She wakes up 2-3 times a night and it is rare that she sleeps more than 4 hours straight. Is it possible I am encouraging her to sleep inconsistently and depend on bottles through the night?
Usually, what works well with a baby that age would be to hold her for a while (maybe rock her or else stand and rock and sing a quiet, slow, song while you hold her close and maybe stroke the back of her head). Then put her in her crib.
She may be too "hyped up" to sleep through. She could be being awakened. The room temperature could be a little cold. She may not be getting quite enough to eat/drink, and maybe she really is hungry.
If the crib has to be next to your bed you should probably make sure she goes into bed long before you do. If, by any chance, she's taking long naps in the day don't let her do that. That could be her "main" sleep, and she could be taking "naps" at night.
Usually, if a baby gets a bottle that has enough in it, its easy to keep them on a schedule because they get full.
There's the chance you're giving her bottles she doesn't need when she wakes up, but then there's the chance she's actually hungry.
I'm guessing that you're not encouraging her to sleep inconsistently and depend on bottles. I think it's more that she's not getting enough to eat late enough, or else, as I mentioned before, that you're giving her bottles when she wakes when, maybe, that's not what she needs.
If she's too active (or around too much activity) evenings she'll be less likely to sleep soundly. You don't have to whisper and turn off all the lights evenings, but it can help if tv volume gets lowered some, lights get dimmed some, and there isn't a lot of "whoop it up" kind of conversation going on after dinner.
