What is the proper oxygen dosage for emergency administration?

When needing to administer oxygen in an emergency, how much should be administered? The gauge reads to the best of my memory 1000, 1500, etc. What should it be turned on to to be most effective yet not overdosing the patient causing lung damage or worse in the victim?

You can't overdose someone on oxygen. The only time you have to be careful is if it's a baby and your bagging, so you don't rupture the lungs by overinflating them. That's why there's a pop off valve on pediatric BVMs.
The only other time is if your using a flow restricted whatever it's called (I don't think they ever used them anymore), for the same reason.
The pressure in the tank can be anywhere from 0 (empty) to 2,000 psi when full. Generally the O2 should be somewhere between 2-6lpm on a cannula, 15lpm on a NRB and BVM.
